USM's Password FAQ Page for CorporateTime
This page addresses a couple of the most common and frequently asked questions and issues regarding passwords in the CorporateTime Software system.
Q: The server prompted me to change my password, but I never have to enter one to log in. What do I do?
A: The client software is configurable to allow automatic sign-in. This is NOT recommended for two reasons. First, it presents the problem that is often encountered when users cannot remember their password. Secondly, and most importantly, however, this removes any security to the system. If a user were to leave their computer unattended with no password-protected screensaver, someone could log into the CorporateTime server with the client software and have access via that user's account. If your password has expired and you have this problem, contact the CorporateTime administrator, and your password will be manually reset.
Q: I requested that my password be reset, and now I get an "Offline Folders" prompt that tells me my password is incorrect. What do I do?
A: Corporate Time maintains an online, server-side copy of all users' passwords, and a local copy of the password on the computer from which the account is being accessed. Normally, these two passwords should be the same. However, in some cases, such as a manual password reset, a user's offline password may become different from the online password. If the offline password is unknown, the account holder will not be able to get into his or her account. If this happens, you can resolve the problem by deleting the offline agenda from the local hard drive. The next time the user signs into CorporateTime, a new offline agenda will be created with a copy of the current online password.
To do this, close Corporate Time, locate the following two files, and rename or delete them:
XTMLOCAL.DAT
XTMLOCAL.NDX
Typically, these files can be found in the Windows directory. If CorporateTime is installed on the computer, these files MUST be on the hard drive. If they do not appear in a search of the hard drive, make sure that the option to "Show All Files" is enabled in Windows Explorer. To do this, open Windows Explorer, and go to the Folder Options under View or Tools, depending on which version of Windows you are using. Then click on the View tab and change the option there to View All Files or Show Hidden Files or Folders, again depending on which version of Windows you are using. Then, run the search again, and the files should show up.
Q: I have a PDA using CorporateSync. Everything was working fine for a long time, and now, I get an error while trying to synchronize my PDA to CorporateTime. And I think I just recently changed my CorporateTime password. What do I do?
A: CorporateSync is a separate program that uses the connection information stored within CorporateTime to make contact to the server. Anytime the password changes on the server, CorporateSync must be updated to reflect that change. So, anytime the password is changed, click on Start -> Programs -> CorporateSync -> CorporateSync Settings. When that utility opens, there will be a field for the password. Simply change that password to reflect the current password, and everything should be back to normal.
